The Character and Citizenship Department's vision is: 
Nurturing Tampinesians with values & character for the betterment of the society.

It's mission is: 
Inculcating in our students sound moral values and equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge to succeed in life. 

INTRODUCTION

Character and Leadership Education is an important aspect in the VS Curriculum. Affective issues are incorporated into the curriculum of every subject, and teachers must take the responsibility to inculcate sound social and moral values in every student.

In the teaching of values, the design of the curriculum and co-curriculum involves not just the cognitive aspect but also the heart and the will. The processes of using the five domains of SEL skills can effectively engage the minds of students. While the students are given the opportunity to clarify and demonstrate the values, they should also understand the place of universal values which uphold social order.


The TPSS CCE Curriculum is planned for the purpose of nurturing pupils’ character and cultivating responsible citizens. The 8 intended learning outcomes below, guide the school in the development of the CCE class based lessons and experiences. 


Learning Outcomes
1: Acquire self-awareness and apply self-management skills to achieve personal well-being and effectiveness.
2: Act with integrity and make responsible decisions that uphold moral principles.
3: Acquire social awareness and apply interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships based on mutual respect.
4: Be resilient and have the ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
5: Take pride in our national identity, have a sense of belonging to Singapore and be committed to nation-building.
6: Value Singapore's socio-cultural diversity, and promote social cohesion and harmony.
7: Care for others and contribute actively to the progress of our community and nation.
8: Reflect on and respond to community, national and global issues, as an informed and responsible citizen.


To engage students and to make CCE delivery authentic, dynamic and promote a culture of reflection, the school the school adopts the following guiding principles:
Adopts a whole school approach in the design and implementation of CCE that engages the head, heart and hands.
Equip and enthuse teachers to create learning opportunities to instil values.
Uses a diverse range of instructional strategies such as the use of drama, photography, art, talks, games and exhibitions and           CCE experiences.
Partners with parents and external organisations.
Fosters the use of the Gibb’s model as a reflection tool.

CCE VALUES LESSON

 

The goal of CCE Values lessons is to teach values, knowledge and skills in our pupils in order to develop them into good individuals and useful citizens. 

Socio- Emotional Lessons

The goals of the SEL specific lessons aims to teach students to increase self-efficacy and build harmonious relationships in school, family and nation through topics such as self-confidence, coping with challenges, bullying and Restorative Practice.

CYBER WELLNESS

 

The goal of Cyber Wellness curriculum is to equip students with life-long social-emotional competencies and sound values so that they can be safe, respectful and responsible users of Information and Communication Technology.

 

EDUCATION AND CAREER GUIDANCE

 

The goals of ECG are to enable our students to explore viable education and career options with accurate and comprehensive information, nurture self-awareness and life skills to add value to their future career and inculcate an appreciation for the value of all occupations.

SEXUALITY EDUCATION LESSON

The goals of Sexuality Education lessons are to provide students with accurate and age-appropriate knowledge, equip them with social and emotional skills as well as decision- making skills so as to help them to develop a moral compass through the inculcation of positive mainstream values and attitudes about sexuality. 

Environmental Education

The goals of environmental lessons are to developing students who act responsibly and care for the environment through our environment education curriculum and experiences.The school provides students varied platforms for demonstration of environmental awareness through a school-wide value-based 3As approach of Awareness, Action and Advocacy.

CIRCLE TIME/ FOCUSSED GROUP

The goals of the termly Circle Time/ Focussed Group Discussions are to provide students with the authentic platform to understand the knowledge of class/ school /community concerns, equip them with the life skills of social and emotional learning and effective communication and to inculcate important school values so as to become a confident, active and concerned student in the class/ school/ community.
