A MEssage From PPN CHAIRPERSON 2018, Mr Cendana

Our school values home-school partnerships and strongly believes that parents’ support is essential for students to thrive in school. Since 2003, the school establishes our parent support group named Parents as Partners Network (PPN) to engage parents who wish to contribute to the school’s efforts. These parents contribute their time and effort in collaboration with us on their children’s educational experience.

Our strong PPN Executive Committee consists of many passionate and committed parents who meet regularly and worked with the school on various programmes and projects that benefitted both parents and students.

They coordinate the efforts of several parent who volunteered at our school’s ECG Career Dialogue Sessions which were organised to inspire Tampinesians to work purposefully towards possible career choices. For example, Madam Mel Rose Angeles shared her work experiences as Head of Human Resource Department at Pan Pacific & Park Royal Serviced Suites, Singapore. She even extended students’ learning by hosting them at her work place, so as to give them ‘real life’ experiential learning. Tampinesians benefited from the in-depth industry knowledge shared by our parents.

PPN Executive Committee also collaborated with us and supported in several school events such as Mass Run and TPSS Fiesta. Their efforts to encourage parent participation at these school events helps to make the school a welcoming and supportive place for parents.

“To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today”1 - this quote, I believe, succinctly express much of what I have learned from the Parent-Leaders and members of TPSS PPN. Parents who, despite of their daily work and home commitments took the time to volunteer and participate in school activities, programs and events for no other reason but to express their love and support for their child, to make new memories and to simply show their child that they truly care.

The school’s line-up of carefully planned parenting programs, breakfast talks and Parent-child activities, have all been great opportunities for parents to learn and enjoy the journey of parenthood while helping to strengthen parent-child relationship. TPSS’s Leadership and Faculty, surely made it worthwhile to be a PPN volunteer.

I can certainly say that I have gained more than I have given as a parent volunteer. The investment of time birthed many wonderful memories and I became much closer with my child, gained many friends, and learned effective parenting skills.  Looking back, my stint as a PPN volunteer made me a better parent than before I joined PPN.

“Thank you, TPSS!” and “Thank you, PPN Team!”
