Mission Vision

Vision

"Understanding Science, appreciating life"

Mission

In Tampines Secondary School, we aim to provide students with Authentic, Constructivist and Experiential Science learning experiences to build a strong foundation in Science knowledge and its applications in daily life. This would in turn develop in students

  • the spirit of scientific inquiry and innovations and
  • an interest in the subject which will help them to understand their roles in society and work.

Key Programmes For Each Level

Secondary 1

The LSS adopts a thematic and inquiry-based approach to the learning of science. In the theme of Diversity, students learn about variety, common characteristics and unifying ideas to better understand the world we live in. In the Models theme, students learn about how physical and conceptual models facilitate understanding of processes and structures that cannot be observed directly.  All Sec 1 students participate in an in-house experiential learning program at the end of the year.

Secondary 2

The LSS adopts a thematic and inquiry-based approach to the learning of science. Students learn about the topics in the Systems and Interactions theme in Sec 2. In the Systems theme, students learn about Parts of a system can influence one another and hence the whole system and Inputs to a system can determine the outputs of the system. In the interactions theme, students learn interactions occur through the transfer of energy and/or matter, as well as the application of forces and that interactions can lead to changes or stability in the system. All Sec 2 students participate in an in-house experiential learning program at the middle of the year.

Secondary 3

We offer a myriad of subject combinations to our upper secondary students, which include all three Pure Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) and Combined Sciences (Chemistry/Physics or Chemistry/Biology). Students will get the chance to participate in engaging experiential learning programmes offered by the Science Center, some of which include ‘Bacterial Transformation’ and ‘Biomimicry’.

Secondary 4/5

We offer a myriad of subject combinations to our upper secondary students, which include all three Pure Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) and Combined Sciences (Chemistry/Physics or Chemistry/Biology).

Stretch ProgramSelected Sec 1 to 3 students who show an aptitude for Science are selected for a science stretch program. They will be exposed to more scientific phenomena to broaden their knowledge and skills.
